In 2017, Jim Hackett, a former furniture maker and a proponent of design thinking, was surprisingly appointed CEO of Ford Motor Company.
Unlike his predecessors from more traditional backgrounds like finance or technology, he focuses on the User ExperiencE (UX), an approach he had previously spearheaded at Steelcase, which had become a pioneer in open, team-oriented workspaces.
The introduction of UX in the automotive industry has helped maintain Ford's competitiveness in a sector facing a changing landscape where the automobile is becoming an accessory to digital devices.
